When we think about freedom, we often think about the rights we've inherited. But freedom is also about the opportunities that we create. It's the freedom to imagine a better future and to ask difficult questions. The freedom to innovate, to build, to serve, and to make a difference.

At Marshall University, we see those freedoms come to life every day. We see them in the students who are first in their families to attend college, in researchers tackling the nation's most difficult challenges, in entrepreneurs creating new businesses, or in future educators, healthcare professionals, engineers, artists, and public servants preparing to one day strengthen the communities that they serve.

We know education alone can't create freedom, but it has the power to level the playing field and to help people realize their full potential. As we celebrate the 250th anniversary of our country, we're reminded that every generation has the responsibility to carry freedom forward, not simply by protecting it, but by putting it to work for others.

That's a responsibility we proudly embrace at Marshall University, because the greatest expression of freedom isn't just the opportunity to succeed ourselves, it's the opportunity to help others succeed along the way.
